THIS NOVEMBER, CLIMATE JUSTICE ADVOCATES CALLED ON PRESIDENT BIDEN AND ALL OTHER APEC LEADERS:
DON'T TRADE AWAY OUR CLIMATE FUTURE.
OUR DEMANDS
-
End Climate Pollution. The United States must reverse its disproportionate role in creating the climate crisis, by no longer propping up the fossil fuel industry, rapidly zeroing out greenhouse gas emissions and helping other countries do the same.
-
Globalize Climate Justice. The United States and all members of APEC must commit to climate justice for communities of color and take action to end the disproportionate impact climate change has on communities of color in their own nations and globally.
-
Stop Trade Attacks on Climate Action. The United States and all members of APEC must end corporate-driven trade agreements that greenwash, weaken and delay the transition to a just and clean economy, and must commit to a Climate Peace Clause immediately ending trade attacks on climate action.

This November in San Francisco, the United States and thirteen other countries planned to announce the conclusion of large parts of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) trade agreement at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum.

Poised to set binding rules governing approximately 40% of the global economy, and also to become the template for subsequent trade pacts, IPEF would have had major impacts on climate policy, worker rights and more for decades to come.
In spite of this, climate activists and working people were not represented in a closed door negotiating process. Meanwhile, corporate lobbyists were doing everything in their power to hard to get what they wanted, enjoying almost unlimited access to US trade officials and negotiators. As it stood, IPEF will would nothing to address the climate catastrophe. APEC leaders were clearly not taking the climate crisis seriously, and were merely opting to promote more policies that greenwash and hide devastatingly irresponsible backdoor deals with multinational corporations.

Thanks to our work, large numbers of working people, climate activists and others turned out this November to ensure that the Biden Administration did not rush IPEF forward at the APEC meetings in San Francisco. We successfully blocked corporate lobbyists from getting their way this November. This website will continue to be updated as we learn more information.
